The Secret to Abundant Energy: Unshaming Rest

Unshaming rest is the portal to the most abundant energy I've ever known.

I want to share with you my secret and number one life hack for abundant energy.

Recently, one of my friends came to me with a really important question that I was so grateful to receive. She said, "Rivky, you seem to be doing a lot. You're creating, you're in creative mode, you seem to have abundant energy, and there's something new coming through every day—art, podcasts, clients, events, retreats. Your personal life is so full with so many things moving. I've been resting for a while now after working really hard and getting pretty burnt out. I'm drained and in this season of rest."

She continued, "So I'm noticing that I'm resting, and I'm wondering—because I'm concerned for you—are you resting enough? Are you going to burn yourself out at this pace? Are you moving with intention? Are you allowing rest to be a part of your life?"

I told her I would share the secret to this energy, and she said, "Tell me."

I asked her, "You say that you're resting, but are you experiencing resourcing rest? Is your rest restoring you? Is your rest actually resourcing you?" She said no, that she was still feeling drained.

Here's what I told her about resourcing rest: There are two types of rest.

The first kind is the rest that you lean into completely. You luxuriate in it. You deeply surrender to it. You allow yourself to nap, to space out, to let your body surrender into nothingness.

The second kind looks like you're resting on the outside, but on the inside, there are all these voices working really hard in the background—shame voices saying, "Am I lazy? Am I responsible enough? Am I allowed to take this time for myself? Is this okay?" Even though it seems like you're resting and allowing your body to rest, you're not rejuvenating because there's a system working so hard in the background. It looks like you're resting, but really you're working incredibly hard.

When I rest, I lean into the rest completely. I give myself full permission to experience rejuvenating, resourcing, shame-free rest, and that allows me to experience the most abundant energy I've ever known.

If this helps even one person, it's worth it to me.
