Understanding Developmental Trauma matters because it can de-shame the experience of feeling like "I shouldn't feel this way because my friend had it so much worse" or for people who feel shame for secret symptoms they grapple with without knowing why.
There is a lot of talk in the healing world about "Big T" trauma, things like se*ual or physical abuse, bullying, divorce, death etc.
There is a lot less talk about the trauma that comes not only from what happened to someone, but also what DIDN'T happen for them, the needs that didn't get met (that they may not even know were needs) and The scars on the individual or collective level as a result. (Sadness, anxiety, pervasive loneliness, unexplained symptoms)
What can be acknowledged in the Self, can be felt. What we can know about we can feel... and through feeling, healing happens.
