On False Humility

Sep 06, 2025

This is what Rav Kook, (whose Yartzeit/ anniversary of death was this week) said:

"A person must recognize his inner talent, and know within himself if he was created for greatness. He should not be frightened by the sin of pride in acknowledging the measure of his intellect and the worth of his desire. On the contrary — from false humility, which crushes the soul and blurs the divine light within, he must beware even more."

I tell this to my clients all the time.

At our core, our state of being is godliness. Making ourselves small is not recognizing that most important truth.

Simply put, true humility is recognizing the godliness within us.

False humility is not recognizing that.

When we make ourselves small, we are being the most arrogant we can be. We are not recognizing the most fundamental truth: we are made from godliness, and the soul inside of us is a piece of God itself.

So the next time someone reflects your essence to you, receive it. It's the truth of your being. The more you receive it, the more you believe it, the more you believe it, the more you act like it.

And we sure do need more people embodying godliness in this world!

One of my clients and dear friends defined true humility:

True humility: Rooted in knowing exactly who you are, the power you carry, and where that power comes from.

And so it is!
